I wrote this applet originally for a bank called Bital (now HSBC) to allow all their employees in Mexico to send short messages to Skytel customers from an online agenda intranet application. After Skytel started offering a similar service I expanded the program's functionality to allow messages to be sent simultaneously to an e-mail address as well as to their Skytel device.
The applet depended on a CGI script written in C to do most of the business logic, as Java was pretty useless at the time, other than to create dynamic content on a web page. To test the applet just click on the device and start writing.
